HOW TO BECOME A MEMBER OF THE ENGINEERS’ GUILD OF SRI LANKA (EGSL)

 

EGSL invites young and energetic persons, those who are having the under-mentioned qualifications to obtain the membership of Engineers’ Guild of Sri Lanka, which is another forum to voice the opinion of Engineers.

ELIGIBILITY FOR MEMBER OF EGSL

 

a. he is a graduate of Engineering from a recognized University.

 

OR

 

b. he is a Fellow, Member, or Associate Member of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka, or another Engineering Institution recognized by the Engineers’ Guild.

 

OR

 

c. he is a person coming within the definition of an Engineer in Public Administration Letter No. 27 of 16th May 1978. (See given latter part of the page)

 

OR

 

d. he is a person who is not less than 35 years of age and holds an appointment as an Engineer in a recognized Engineering Organisation.

 

OR

 

e. he shall have possessed a service of not less than 21 years as a Technical Officer in Sri Lanka Technological Service and at least 5 years from the above shall be after promotion to Grade II and further shall have fully passed the 2nd examination (Service Minute 1979) conducted for Government Technical Officers (G.T.O.) by the Commissioner General of Examinations and holds an appointment as an Engineer in Engineering Service under Public Service Commission.

 

OR

 

f. he is a person who is having National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 7 Certificate in Engineering Technology and holds an appointment as an Engineer with three (03) years post qualifying experience in a recognized Engineering Organisation. The Council may require any candidate to attend a Professional Review Interview (PRI) conducted on his behalf so that he may better satisfy the Council that he possesses the requisite qualifications

 

ELIGIBILITY FOR NON-CORPORATE MEMBERS OF EGSL

 

a. he has a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 4 Certificate in Engineering Technology or above.

 

OR

 

b. he shall be a distinguished and eminent person who has rendered valuable service to the profession and accept the invitation of the Council to this class of Honorary Member.

If you have any one of the qualifications mentioned above, what you have to do is to submit the duly filled application signed by three proposers who are corporate members of the Engineers’ Guild of Sri Lanka (will be arranged by EGSL once the application is received) together with the following supporting document.

 

  1. Copy of the Birth Certificate
  2. Copy of the (i) Degree OR (ii) Equivalent qualification OR (iii) Engineering Diploma Certificate OR (iv) G.T.O 2 Examination results sheet OR (v) NVQ Certificate acceptable to the Engineers’ Guild of Sri Lanka
  3. Those who obtain an engineering diploma or G.T.O. 2 Examination to produce documents to support that they have over 21 years Post Qualifying Experience
  4. Two colour photographs of the size 5 cm x 4 cm The Registration and Life Membership Fee of Rs. 4000/= plus Certificate Fee Rs. 500/= plus Member ID Card Fee of Rs. 500/=. The total payment is Rs. 5000/=.

 

The payment could be made either by Cash or Online Payment or a Cheque written in favour of “Engineers’ Guild of Sri Lanka” for Rupees 4800/= may be deposited in any People’s Bank branch, A/C No. 204-1001-9008-5316 and e-mail the scan copy or photo of the bank deposit slip or online payment receipt to guildengineers@gmail.com with indicating your name.

DEFINITION OF AN ENGINEER IN PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION LETTER No.27 of 16-5 -1978

 

(a) A person possessing the B.Sc. (Engineering) Degree Certificate from a recognized University or equivalent professional qualification recognized by the Institution of Engineers or having full professional qualifications in the field of Engineering.

 

(b) A person who does not have such qualifications, but holds the post of Engineer on appointments as such based on an approved scheme of recruitment in an Institution, provided he has a minimum of twenty-one (21) years of service as a Technical Assistant, Inspector or Foreman of equivalent rank and has passed an examination of a standard not lower than that of the Inspectors Examination conducted by the Commissioner of Examination
