Eng. Ravi Rupasinghe
President of EGSL
I am humbled, honored and privileged to assume the role of President of the Engineers’ Guild of Sri Lanka (EGSL)at 40th AGM. I am deeply grateful to my predecessor, Eng. Benedict Ulluwishewa, for his leadership and outstanding contributions to EGSL during his presidency, and the members of the Executive Committee and Board of 2021-2022. I am inspired by their commitment to EGSL and all of their achievements. Indeed, the growth of EGSL has been propelled collectively by the individuals and all the past presidents and past members of the EGSL Board and Executive Committee. I look forward to continuing this important work towards fulfilling the mission of EGSL.
In this esteemed organization of EGSL, I was a council member since 2012 & I was selected as Vice president in the year 2017 and I was elected as president for the year 2022-2023.
The EGSL which was inaugurated in 1981 was the fruit of many senior engineers among whom special mention must be made of Eng.L.R.L Perera and Eng. L.D. Abeywickrama. One of them is with us today and they are to be honored for their distinguished services rendered to the engineering fraternity in Sri Lanka. Over the past years our membership has grown steadily and now stands at 372.
This year has been one of the most difficult times, with social, political and economic crisis in the country. With such an unfavorable environment, it was a daunting task to accomplish the EGSL activities planned for this year. However, thanks to the unconditional wholehearted support of the membership, we were able to accomplish all the activities with resounding success. As EGSL President, I extend my sincere thanks to you all.
As I assumed duties as the President of this prestigious professional organization, my focus was to align the year’s activities on main areas, namely education, increase the membership, conduct professional development activities & as well as develop the activities for technician – all to develop Sri Lanka’s Engineering services to world-class standards.
I’m proud of our Chapter’s successes over the last year, particularly in providing more opportunities for meaningful engagement of our members and sponsors, introducing innovative programming formats and topics, and providing professional development and outreach opportunities. In the year ahead, we will continue these initiatives, as well as adding programming designed for the different stages of your professional career, virtual programming, and events held in collaboration with other chapters and beyond.
Thank you members for your continued participation and enthusiasm in our professional community, and sponsors for your incredible support and advice. Finally, I’d like to give a special shout-out of appreciation to our Chapter members and for all the resources, guidance and support they provide each and every day. Thank you all!
